Spinoza Saves!

Professor Read directed me to this article on Spinoza. I think it might be interesting to talk about unity vs. division in terms of Spinoza's theory of a single reality. This is in contrast with the Cartesian theory of division and disunity which led to the beginning of scientific racism according to Cornell West. (see "The Genealogy of Modern Racism")

Reading Spinoza will incite a warm optimistic feeling in your heart, or at the very least you will feel compelled to pack him a lunch with an encouraging note inside.

As Bertrand Russell quite rightly surmises, Spinoza is the most lovable philosopher.

As someone who has done a whole lot of study on the nature and order of the universe, Einstein proclaimed that it was Spinoza's God that he believed in.
